Er bod gan y ddeuawd ffidil\/soddgrwth ei repertoire ei hun, heb fod angen cerddorfa o gwbl, nid yw\u2019r repertoire mor eang ac y gallai rhywun ei ddisgwyl. Yn y cyfnod clasurol, roedd y cyfuniad deuawd dwy ffidil neu ffidil\/fiola yn cael ei ffafrio\u2019n helaeth. Tybiaf mai\u2019r broblem yw bod y soddgrwth, gan fod ei nodau gymaint yn is na\u2019r ffidil, wedi\u2019i fwriadu ar gyfer r\u00f4l gyfeilio yn unig o bosibl. Er mwyn i\u2019r ddau offeryn gymryd tro yn cyfeilio i\u2019w gilydd, rhaid i\u2019r soddgrwth godi i nodau uwch. Mae\u2019n enghraifft o ysgrifennu canmoladwy iawn, ac eithaf newydd yn ei gyfnod, er bod Haydn yn gwybod beth oedd yn ei wneud &#8211; llwyddodd hefyd i ddefnyddio\u2019r offeryn mewn dau goncerto soddgrwth llwyddiannus iawn. Ond yn ei driawdau piano, cadwodd Haydn at y patrwm arferol. Ni welwyd defnydd o\u2019r soddgrwth yn chwarae nodau\u2019r ffidil eto tan Beethoven a Schubert, mewn triawdau piano a gyfansoddwyd ychydig ddegawdau\u2019n ddiweddarach. Mae\u2019r gwaith yn fawr ac yn fentrus, weithiau\u2019n ddirdynnol, weithiau\u2019n optimistaidd, ac yn llawn egni rhythmig ar hyd yr amser. Ar y dechrau, roedd cyfraniad Rebecca Clarke yn 1916 yn ddeuawd fiola\/soddgrwth, ond cafodd ei addasu ganddi ar gyfer y ffidil\/soddgrwth. Roedd y Sonata for Violin and Cello o waith Ravel, a gyfansoddwyd rhwng 1920 ac 1922, yn deyrnged i Debussy, a fu farw ar ddiwedd y rhyfel. Yma, mae Ravel yn dod o hyd i gyfoeth newydd o ran effaith, gyda\u2019r ddau offeryn yn plethu mewn llinellau cyferbwyntiol iawn, gan ymgymryd \u00e2 dewiniaeth dechnegol fel stopiau dwbl, synau harmonig a pizzicato. Weithiau, mae\u2019r ddau offeryn yn ymddangos fel petaent yn cyd-fynd \u00e2\u2019i gilydd; weithiau, maent yn chwarae mewn cyweiriau ar wah\u00e2n!
