Jonathan Rimmer studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. He was a finalist in the Shell L.S.O. competition and in 1990 won the woodwind section of the B.B.C. Young Musician of the Year performing live with Sir Charles Groves on the BBC at St Davids Hall, Cardiff.
As a soloist he has toured twice with the European Community Chamber Orchestra and in America at venues such as the Lincoln Centre, Time Warner Centre and the United Nations, New York.
Jonathan is a founder member and Principal flute with the groundbreaking Ensemble Cymru with whom he has worked for nearly twenty years.
Jonathan has broadcast for national radio and television and toured the Middle East, U.S.A. and Mexico.
Several of Jonathan’s former students currently hold orchestral posts in European orchestras and are high profile competition winners in Europe and America.
Jonathan is in great demand as a teacher and currently holds teaching posts at Birmingham Conservatoire, Bangor University, Birmingham University and the Royal Northern College of Music, and coach for the National Youth Wind Ensemble. Jonathan is also the principal tutor for FluteFest Wales.
