Piano: Richard Ormrod

Richard Ormrod grew up in Cardiff and made his first concerto appearance at the age of 10 playing Mozart with the South Glamorgan Youth Orchestra before going on to study at Wells Cathedral School with Michael Young, and at King’s College, Cambridge, where he completed his MA.

As a postgraduate, he was a student of Eliso Virsaladze at the Moscow Conservatory.

Richard was an artist-in-residence at the Aspen Music Festival for five years, performing concerti, recitals and chamber music. He toured as concerto soloist with the Philharmonia Virtuosi in the Pacific Rim in 1996 and, at the Beethoven Millennium Eve Gala, he made a first appearance as soloist at London’s Barbican Centre with the Philharmonia Orchestra under David Parry.

Richard is the permanent pianist with the Hyperion Ensemble in Salzburg and has also been the soloist for three international tours of the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. He has developed an active chamber music presence in the US through his association with the world-renowned Dorian Wind Quintet.

Richard’s recital repertory ranges from Bach to Beethoven, Brahms and Schoenberg and he has performed for audiences throughout the United Kingdom, as well as in Austria, Bosnia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, the United States, and Yugoslavia.
