Originally from Birmingham, Lucy has lived in Wales since 1996. She plays the piano and clarinet, but her passion is for music education. She came to Wales to study music at Bangor University where she graduated with a BMus degree (First Class honours), and subsequently an MA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
In 2002 Lucy was awarded a Winston Churchill Travelling Scholarship to research interactive music education in America, Germany and Luxembourg. During her time abroad, Lucy became certain that she wanted to work in music education, more specifically with young children. She investigated a range of approaches of music education searching for training opportunities and discovered the Sound Beginnings Professional Development Certificate in Early Years Music (Kod\u00e1ly) which she completed in 2004. The Kod\u00e1ly approach has been the foundation of her work ever since. The Kod\u00e1ly approach emphasises the use of traditional rhymes and songs as a way of developing musical skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Knowing that she wanted to live and work in Wales, Lucy started learning Welsh in 1999. As part of her Kod\u00e1ly training, she started collecting and developing bilingual music resources suitable for children up to 7 years of age. One of her songs, The Frog, was published in 2004 as part of the \u201cHelpa Fi Wneud C\u00e2n\u201d project. By 2005 Lucy was fluent in Welsh and completed her PGCE (Primary) in the Welsh language in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2015 Lucy decided to begin training in Dalcroze Eurhythmics (learning about music through movement) and qualified as a Dalcroze Eurhythmics Practitioner in 2018. Never one to miss an opportunity for further study, Lucy is currently studying for the Kod\u00e1ly Certificate in Professional Practice, Primary Level 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During her career in music education, Lucy has worked in schools, with arts festivals, in the William Mathias Music Centre, Caernarfon, and is also a qualified primary school teacher. Since September 2016, Lucy has been a music tutor with Sistema Cymru, Codi\u2019r To and is responsible for musicianship work with pupils from nursery to Year 2. She is also leading an education project for Ensemble Cymru (professional chamber music ensemble) in Ysgol Tudno, Llandudno.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
