Transfigured Nights
Hebrides Ensemble and Psappha – 25 years of new music
Two of the UK’s foremost contemporary music ensembles join forces for this unique collaborative programme to celebrate their joint 25th birthdays.
From the powerful expressivity of Farewell to Stromness, to the kaleidoscopic colours of The Last Island (accompanied here with a film), Psappha and Hebrides Ensemble pay tribute to the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies – whose music has shaped their programming over the last quarter of a century. A brand new co-commission from David Fennessy looks ahead to the future, while knitting together this programme of old and new is Schoenberg’s masterpiece for string sextet, Transfigured Night.
Programme:
- Peter Maxwell Davies – The Last Island
- Peter Maxwell Davies arr. David Horne – Farewell to Stromness
- David Fennessy – new co-commission (Welsh premiere)
