Ensemble Cymru 15 year anniversary celebration in Cardiff

An Evening of Celebration with Ensemble Cymru at the National Assembly of Wales

17 May 2017 at 6 – 7.30pm

Sponsored by Siân Gwenllian (AM Arfon)

In 2002, Ensemble Cymru gave their first public performance at a small music festival in North Wales. 15 years later, and Ensemble Cymru is performing to more than 5,000 people annually through its national touring circuit, as well as international audiences as part of its growing cultural exchange work.

While Ensemble Cymru’s circumstances may have changed, the principles it started with in 2002 remain steadfast – to deliver chamber music of the highest quality to communities throughout Wales and to showcase the best of Welsh chamber music to international audiences.

Communities

As the only professional year-round chamber music ensemble working outside of Cardiff, we believe in taking the highest quality live music performance to audiences and communities who may otherwise not get to experience it. We believe passionately that geography or socioeconomic factors should not be a barrier to enjoying or practising classical music and the Arts as a whole.

Young musicians

Through our ‘Chamber Academies’ we offer young musicians and composers the opportunity to take part in masterclasses and workshops led by some of the country’s leading classical music performers. In addition, they also gain valuable performance experience as workshop sessions culminate in a public performance ahead of an Ensemble Cymru concert.

This, together with our commitment to championing new work and giving a platform to Welsh composers at the start of their career, helps raise the profile of Welsh Chamber music, inspires the next generation of musicians and creates a robust and exciting future for classical music.

International work

Although rooted in the communities of Wales our outlook is truly international.  With increasing engagements across the globe, from Switzerland to China, we champion chamber music from across the world in Wales and Welsh Chamber music to people in Wales and beyond.

15 year anniversary event
