Alena Walentin enjoys an international career as soloist, chamber musician, arranger and teacher. She has played as principal flute with the ROH Covent Garden, London Concert Orchestra, Halle, London Mozart Players, Verbier Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC NOW and others.
An Altus Artist, she is Artistic Director of the international festival Soundscape MS and is a former Vice-Chair of the British Flute Society.
Alena serves on the jury of a wide range of major international flute competitions, has held teaching positions at a number of conservatoires and has given masterclasses throughout Europe, the USA and the fast east. Her wind quintet Atéa were double prize winners at the Carl Nielsen Chamber Music Competition and are currently Ensemble in Residence at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Alena’s debut CD was chosen as “CD of the Week” by the Danish National Radio. She has since recorded for Swiss, German and Danish record labels and her recording of music for flute and guitar by female composers will shortly be released by NAXOS.
In her spare time Alena loves to paint, read, rollerskate and to listen to birds sing.
