Born in London, Jonathan read music at Bristol University and later studied conducting with George Hurst. He is Music Director of Opera Project which he co-founded in 1993 and has conducted extensively across a range of UK summer opera festivals including Longborough Festival Opera, West Green House Opera and Iford Opera.
He is Music Director of the Ludlow Orchestra and of Mid Wales Opera with whom he has also collaborated with Ensemble Cymru since 2018. His many reduced orchestrations of operas are performed extensively worldwide, and his chamber arrangements of operas are published by OUP and Peermusic NY. He has lived in NW Herefordshire for over twenty years where he enjoys cooking, gardening, carpentry and walking in the Welsh Marches.
