Forget photo bombing, Ensemble Cymru are preparing to ‘sound bomb’ Galeri in Caernarfon this summer with a series of spontaneous performances. The Bangor based chamber music group launched their first ‘attack’ on Galeri on Sunday evening when the ensemble’s principle percussionist, Dewi Ellis-Jones from Caernarfon, brought the bar to a standstill with an impromptu performance. This performance marks the first in a series of free mini-concerts by Ensemble Cymru at Galeri over the summer, culminating in a ticketed lunchtime concert on 29 September, 12:30pm.
Peryn Clement-Evans, Ensemble Cymru’s Artistic Director said, “We’re offering live classical music performances with no strings attached. For people who’ve never considered attending a chamber music concerts, this is a way for them to dip their toe in and experience what Ensemble Cymru do. If they like what they hear, we’d love to welcome them to our full length concert at Galeri in September.” Galeri’s Artistic Director, Mari Emlyn said, “It’s a little out of the ordinary and will probably take some of people by surprise, but we’re really excited about this special project from Ensemble Cymru. We hope our audiences will see it as a lovely treat, a little burst of music when they least expect it!” Ensemble Cymru’s next pop-up concert will be at Galeri on 15 August from 6:30pm, followed by 30 August from 12pm. Ensemble Cymru will also be appearing at a number of events across North Wales with their pop-up concerts over the coming months, please see the Ensemble Cymru website for full details.
