Roedd ymddiriedolwyr Ensemble Cymru, gweithwyr a pherfformwyr yn drist o glywed am farwolaeth sydyn Dr David Evans.
Fel cerddoregydd, chwaraewr corn a storïwr, roedd gan Dr Evans frwdfrydedd heintus dros gerddoriaeth a bywyd. Bydd colled enfawr ar ôl ei frwdfrydedd dros ddarganfod ein treftadaeth gerddorol a’n helpu ni i ddysgu amdani a’i deall, ynghyd â’i wybodaeth helaeth a’i ddealltwriaeth fel cerddoregydd a’i hoffter o berfformio.
Heb David, ni fyddai llawer o lawysgrifau a oedd gynt wedi’u colli wedi gweld golau dydd, a buasai profiad addysgol nifer fawr o fyfyrwyr yn llawer tlotach. Bydd ei farwolaeth yn effeithio ar lawer o fywydau yng Nghymru benbaladr. I’r myfyrwyr dirifedi a aeth trwy Ysgol Cerddoriaeth Prifysgol Bangor, roedd David yn rhywun a gyfoethogodd eu profiad o ddysgu ac o fyw mewn modd arwyddocaol.
Mae’r cyfan ohonom ni sy’n gysylltiedig ag Ensemble Cymru yn anfon ein cydymdeimlad at ei deulu, ei gyn-gydweithwyr ym Mhrifysgol, myfyrwyr, cydweithwyr yn y byd cyhoeddi, a chyfeillion.
Ymunodd Dr David Evans â Bwrdd yr Ymddiriedolwyr yn 2012, gan gyfrannu o’i brofiad o addysgu ac ymchwil drylwyr ac o gyhoeddi, ochr yn ochr â’i frwdfrydedd heintus dros berfformiadau byw o gerddoriaeth Cymru.
What a lovely write-up about a lovely person and personal friend. I spent many happy hours at David’s house just chatting and maybe having a “panad” and occasionally cake!. He would tell me about all the new developments in his research work and the progress of The Cathedral Press from the time that he took it over from Peter James and before. He would speak about the efficiency of Graeme and others and their capability. The making of the various video clips and all the other hard work which he and the team were undertaking.
Your statement above Peryn, focuses exactly how David was and I thank you for that.
Thank you David for being an enviable example to us all.
With memories.
ALUN
Goodbye, Dad. It’s a bit strange without you, but I think that we can cope. You were right that you didn’t have too many years left to you. I hope you don’t mind that I’m having to get rid of a lot of your stuff at home now. I’m also having to get rid of some of my stuff to make room in my flat for some of your stuff! We’re hoping to have a grand sale of your music books in Bangor Music Department in a few weeks or months: staff and students only, I believe.
I think it’s fair to say that David was a great man. Respected not only for his musical genius but also for being such a downtoearth and personable man. He touched so many lives and has kept his students permenantly amused and inspired by his stories and work ethic. You will be greatly missed by your family and wider family who also adored you as a father/ grandfather figure. I hope you’re up there with the great composers relishing in the knowledge we all can spot a consecutive 5th at 5 paces. God bless you.
